Used braided wire wheel & angle grinder to get down to bare steel. Finagled the front heater to pull the hoses up through the floor enough to remove the wood underneath
Vacuumed, Degreased, and primed
Strung up the heater using fishing line to be able to spray under. This is what the underside looks like. Two coolant hoses and a wire
First coat of rustoleum down. Curious what y’all’s process from here was?

Beginning stages of raising it. Couldn’t for the life of us figure out what was keeping it stuck. Eventually found a couple small welds at the front and back.
Continuing on
Almost Done With the Raise!
Hat channels welded in. Darkness had fallen
Very pleased with my decision to hire a welder and not fuck with something structural as a noob welder
Some t post a friend and I constructed to be raised with bottle jacks. They definitely fell on us a couple times after we tightened the all thread jacks lol

Fabricated a frame to catch the screws and provide more support
Hoping to avoid galvanic corrosion. Used M12 stainless machine screws and tapped the holes with a 12-24 tap. Viton o rings between the aluminum and the steel.
Reamed out the underside holes to 7/8” so I could fit a hollow core nut driver in there to tighten everything down. Loctite blue on every screw
Used stainless 1/4 blind rivets to mount the frame to the roof. Butyl tape and machine screws to mount hatch to frame. Sika 295 (UV resistant version of 221) around frame
Completed install from underside. Unsure how to best use spray foam here since I may need to access those screws later. Suggestions welcome

The paint had flacked off in most places and has significant rust. Some corners are separating due to the rust. The handles are fairly bad too
Here’s an example of where the side has separated. I want to try welding it together but I’ve never welded. I’ve got a forney MP 140 with flux core. Suggestions?
