Wanted to jailbreak an old iPad 1st gen but the software (Redsn0w) doesn't work on newer computers. So I took a newer iPad, jailbroke that, set up a Windows XP VM, repurposed a Lightning to USB camera connection kit to connect the older iPad, and ran the jailbreak from iPad to iPad.

Found a 2005 17 PowerBook with high-resolution display, it's a really sleek machine even in today's standards. For basic every tasks like word processing and light photo editing it still holds up pretty well (just no modern web browsing). Bonus cameo appearance from the iPod.

App forces user to watch several ads during setup and then fakes a connection error to make the user retry the process and watch more ads. No key-file is actually downloaded, network access is purely to download more ads. The emulator itself is built from stolen code.

Fun fact: Thunderbolt-enabled iPads can power the 1st (and 2nd) generation iPod via a FireWire adaptor, however it cannot read the contents of the disk. 3rd generation and newer iPods on the other hand will show up in the Files app and the disk contents can be browsed. That's 21 years between these!
