Joseph Mary Plunkett was an Irish leader in the 1916 Easter Rising where he was captured by British Forces. He and Grace Gifford married in Kilmainham Gaol just hours before his execution, she never remarried. This story inspired one of the most popular and beloved Irish ballads of all time “Grace”.
