Here is a non traditional katana I just finished up (and had photographed) 120 layer random pattern Damascus. Hammered brass guard/brass bolts/white storm fat carbon handle. Full tang overall length 33”.

Railroad spike chipping hammer
From a pile of very burnt steel to a knife. Vintage Nicholson file for the core. Treated the burnt steel like an iron bloom and refined it using sand for flux before finishing it.
After a year and a half of being obsessed with blacksmithing on YouTube and Reddit, I finally got to have a go myself. It's ugly as sin, but it's mine.

My first attempt at forging an anvil. Not entirely pleased but overall I’m happy. Forge welded out of 7 bars with added filler rods. 4.5 lbs. mild steel body and farriers rasp for the faceplate. It’s not the prettiest anvil but it’s mine.

Last week I made a smallish block of Damascus for the first time. 32 layers of 15N20 and 1080. Decided to use it to make my first bottle opener as part of a competition my local forge runs and am very happy with the result!
Skulls are great fun if you've got some time and several punches. :)

First thing I've ever put up for sale. Small candy canes made out of old tent pegs, flattened then twisted tight, then finished with beeswax. On sale at the local pub in time for Xmas.

Making a clone of the spear knife off of a YouTube video I saw a few weeks back. It's coming along pretty well so far.
Today I forged two pairs of pickup tongs. Slightly different Styles. One has flat jaws one has round. Forged from 1”x1/2” with forge welded reigns. How’d I do?

I made my first knife; and it cuts butter.
picked up some wrought iron! 90% of this pile is wrought iron. The rest is scrap for other projects. 10 wagon wheel rims. And several other parts of wagons.
2nd attempt at an axe. Hand Forged from a bar of 1.5 inch diameter mild steel with a farriers rasp for the edge. 28 inch hickory handle. 2.5lbs.
Finally decided to finish this Yakut knife I forged from a old Nicholson file and the handle is crotch oak.

GREAT NEWS! My Smithy/blacksmith shop Is now mostly complete! (It's operational) It Includes 2 Forges (Small one needs rigidizer), 2 Anvils (66lb steel, 55lb cast iron), a table top CNC, a mini lathe, grinding station (1×30, 13.4×.4), chopsaw station, and one great 2hp 2.5 ft ventalation fan.

70lb machined rams. 1.5hp motor, 515lb 8.25 inch round anvil posts, various other machined parts. Heavy hitters!! 28 of them.

Can anyone ID this? My step dad gave me this. It was his great grandfathers. We think it’s some kind of hand anvil used at the vise. 5.75 lbs. any help is appreciated. made of wrought iron.

it’s the end of the year so here are some of my favorite projects over the course of this year. I look forward to seeing what this next year brings for myself and everyone here. Not all the nicest looking things ever but they are my favorites be it for looks or just how fun it was to make.

I punched the hole on the wrong side of the billet but it works just a tad awkward. Butcher tool forged from 1065 left normalized. Hickory handle.

This is probably not the best place to ask, but idk where else to ask.... I want to blacked the dynamic Jaw but to blackened it has to be heated up to 400 to 600F ish and didn't know if it would make it weak or not. Thanks.

Made this bottle opener for my soon to be stepdad for a wedding gift. He hasn't done any brewing recently but wants to make it a full time hobby so I figured this would be a great gift.(BTW this is only my 4th thing I've smithed so pls be gentle)
My backyard forge! It's a super simple setup, but I'm a beginner, so I work with what I have. And don't worry, I don't light the fire in the CMUs. There's a layer of firebricks protecting them.
