The greater omentum is a fatty “apron” which hangs over the intestines. After entering the abdominal cavity, the greater omentum is the first thing a dissector/pathologist will encounter. Notice that it may not cover the entirety of the GI tract. Some of the tract is seen in the bottom of the image.
