Abraham Lincoln apparently had such deep depression, he didn't trust himself around a knife, fearing that he would commit suicide impulsively during the Civil War. When he lived in New Salem, his close friends feared his suicide after the death of his first (debated) sweetheart, Ann Rutledge in 1835
