The wife and I are on our honeymoon. We took a motocamping trip to Colorado from Pennsylvania. We found a nice road on some BLM land that was appropriate for my GS, but less so for her CB500F. She rode it anyway even though she has almost no dirt experience.
I fit all of my camping gear in the panniers so I could use the topcase for this.
