John Ballard and his family were the first black family to setting in the Santa Monica Mountains. Mr. Ballard first moved to LA from Kentucky in the mid-1800s when it still a rough-and-tumble western town. He and his family settled at the base of Ballard Mountain in 1880. More in comments.
