[Land] 30 years farming family land. Finally bought my own place an hour from anyone I know. 2 divorces, raised 5 kids, and saw 2 parents through Alzheimers. At 47 I finally get to live my own life. Wouldn't change my past but damn sure changing my future! Building from the ground up. Clean slate!1yr · jdrufus · r/homestead
People always tell me that they'd rather buy grocery store meat because they didn't know the animal, which is the exact reason why I raise my own meat - I know the animals. I know that they were given a stress-free life of ease.9mo · MMayhan · r/homestead

I'm 61 -disabled as hell in my entire spine but I planted my entire raised bed - drip irrigated garden laying on a yoga mat, Propping myself up on one elbow -still using two hands to plant. It's hard work on the Homestead, and it hurt like hell with tears at times but I did it. You can do it too!8mo · Sandyblueocean · r/homestead

My town (Lake Charles, La) took a direct hit from Hurricane Laura. She uprooted a dozen of my huge oak trees and broke most of my fruit trees. But I found our first ripe Meyer lemon in the debris. Last year I tried a '3 sisters planting' for the first time. It's a traditional first nations way of planting where you grow beans to fix nitrogen in the soil, squash as a ground cover, and corn as a structure for the squash and beans to climb. This was our harvest! Highly reccomend10mo · bonaire_thyme · r/homestead
